My Story & My Plan

Background: I’m a deaf person who has overcome many challenges to get where I am today. I transferred to Sacramento State at 21 after the COVID-19 Pandemic. I learned to communicate with hearing people on my own where ASL interpreters often weren’t available outside the classroom such as in dorm food cafeteria or picking up at mailroom. During that time, I balanced two jobs while earning my degree in Computer Science.

My focus is on Web Development and AI. I want to use my experiences to help others with disabilities who face difficult circumstances by solving real pain points through software solutions. At Sacramento State, I experienced the communication barriers that made it hard to network, form friendships, or fully participate in study groups. Despite that, I persevered, often feeling like the only one of my kind in the CS program.

1. My Mission

Having overcame obstacles myself and talking to others who was in similar situation. It's my understand that many deaf people feel very isolated. I'm only deaf in my family. No one in my family or family friends group know ASL and I had to speak despite prounication issues growing up, I do not understand speech that great. Many of us resorts to texts or social media, it's not really a great way to achieve authentic connections.

There are no disabilities cure like deafness, however I think it's possible to close the gap in that communication barrier through software. This is my long-term mission. I'll be diving into AI combined with OpenCV libraries, they supports speech and gestures recongition. Without getting into it too much. My next projects involves ASL (American Sign Language), Reading Lips and Prounication Reconigition.

2. What Are My Plans

Right now, web development is very broad. I'm very comfortable with HTML and CSS, I'm studying JavaScript and System Design in-depth, eventually I'll dive into AI combined with OpenCV libraries.

I'm in it for long-term. Regardless the state of job market, I'll be pursuing knowledge and learning every day, filling that gap so my next development processes is painless as possible and ready the project that helps people.

One at the time though, I seem to struggle with graphic design that appeals to audience.

My next steps are...

  • Go to events and do my best to network, learn from skilled people for best growth tips.
  • Study UI principles and graphic design on awwwards.com.
  • Take a course in Figma. Design super, fancy UI for best user experience.
  • Practice JavaScript more and use a framework like React.
  • Watch System Design Videos, understand how web apps like Netflix scales and meet millions of users’ demand.
  • Play around with OpenCV + their JS libraries
  • Learn Python, I'll eventually need it for AI training.
  • Enjoy creating things and learn. I experiment with things, see what works and what breaks.
  • Enjoy the Fruition from compounding effect.

3. Fun Facts About Me

  • I’m learning new things every day. I make Youtube videos and documents my coding journey to see how far I can go. This is my passion, I think we’re never too old to learn.
  • I’m raised in California. Go bears!
  • I like lifting HEAVY in gym.

Deadlift 405lbs | Back Squats 365lbs | Bench Press 225lbs | OHP 150lbs

  • I enjoy bodybuilding, photography and nature. I do cooking sometimes... I meal prep often to stay healthy.
  • I like road trips and nature. I drove around California for 7+ years, it can be dull at times but I love it.
